April was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Chicago, where she graduated from Waukegan High School. She went on to continue her education at Georgetown College, graduating with a BA in Art. It was during college that April’s faith became her own and God began to shape her into the woman she is today. After graduation she moved back to Illinois and began working for Northwestern University as an administrative assistant for three years. She transitioned to the city working with high school youth and fell in love with the city and all that God was doing within the lives of urban youth. She is an active member of her church body at Legacy Christian Fellowship, in the Lawndale neighborhood. Her passion is to see minority student succeed and thrive during their time in college, and sees leadership as a big part of that equation.
